Beginning Students

Required:  One of the goals of private lessons is using the one-on-one time and customized instruction to reach and then exceed what you’re able to accomplish in full band class.  To this end, I like my students to have one or two method books in addition to what they use in band. This allows them to keep growing and progressing, yet still have something new to work on in band class. Depending on your level, I recommend either Rubank’s Elementary Method for Horn or Intermediate Method for Horn. I can help determine which book best suits your needs.

Required: Each student needs a copy of Fundamentals of Music Theory for the Windband Student. Some band directors use this in class, so check to see if your student already has a copy. These can only be purchased through a music educator, so you will need to buy a copy from me.

Recommended: The Soloist Folio for Horn is a collection of well-known tunes arranged for solo horn. The middle school All-District Band audition solos are taken from this collection.

9th and 10th Grade Students
