Beginning Students

RequiredOne of the goals of private lessons is using the one-on-one time and customized instruction to reach and then exceed what you’re able to accomplish in full band class.  To this end, I like my students to have one or two method books in addition to what they use in band. This allows them to keep growing and progressing, yet still have something new to work on in band. Depending on your level, I recommend either Rubank’s Elementary Method or Intermediate Method for Tuba. I can help you determine which one best suits your needs.

Required: Each student needs a copy of Fundamentals of Music Theory for the Windband Student. Some band directors use this in class, so check to see if your student already has a copy. These can only be purchased through a music educator, so you will need to buy a copy from me

Recommended: Classic Festival Solos for Tuba is a collection of solos suitable for a skilled middle school or early high school tubist. The middle school All-District solos come from this book.

Practical Studies for Tuba, book 2 is a follow-up to book one, appropriate for the more advanced young student.
